Has anyone noticed the letters about Merrill in the barracks? These are priceless.
Sir Donnic has been hired by the Champion Of Kirkwall to follow an Alienage elf named Merrill. She resides is a squalid hovel in Lowtown and regularly takes evening walks. Given the location of her house, protection is believed to be warranted. As such we have complied with the Champion’s request to safeguard his… friend.
Under NO circumstances are you to question why our esteemed Champion has taken such an interest in a common elf. Under NO circumstances are you to search the premises of Merrill’s home for Lyrium or materials associated with the Magi. Guard Captain Aveline assures us that her past searches were thorough and yielded no evidence of apostasy, thus, further searches would be a waste of time and resources.
Your task is simple: follow Merrill quietly and discretely. Only approach her if she comes into trouble with the more violent Lowtown thugs.
The Champion is paying us a fortune for this job. Don’t question it.
For: Captain Aveline
We’ve received recent intel which suggests that the esteemed Champion of our city has been gallivanting with Maleficarum.
Captain, I know your orders thus far have been to avoid anything related to that strange elf that always follows him around, but I think there may be a traitor in our midst covering for the blood magic of the Champion and his… friend.
We need to investigate further.
Please, get back to me. This is the fifth time I’ve sent this letter to no reply. I feel as if I’m talking to myself.
… Viers has been ordered forthwith to hunt and slay a brigand by the name of Mals. Mals stands accused of slander. According to the Champion, Mals approached an Alienage elf named Merrill in the Lowtown pub the “Hanged Man”. Mals was entirely intoxicated, according to the Champion, and made an unwarranted advance of a sexual nature towards Merrill.
The witnesses, including city Guard Captain Aveline, report seeing the incident. By all accounts, Mals was in good health upon entering “The Hanged Man”, but exited with a limp and a broken arm. All witnesses deny that the Champion caused his injuries. Since Captain Aveline has declared him free of fault, you are NOT to investigate further.
Simply murder Mals. It should be fairly quick, given his injuries.
